Marvel Comics - Savage Avengers #1 (July 2022, Mico Suayan Trade Dress Variant) - CGC 9.6 Universal Grade - Graded Comic Book

Savage Avengers #1 from Marvel Comics marks the start of the new 2022 series. This edition features the Mico Suayan Trade Dress Variant cover and is offered as a CGC 9.6 Universal Grade. The story is written by David Pepose, with artwork by Carlos Magno. Suayan provides a separate illustration for this exclusive cover, making the copy visually distinct from the regular edition of the same issue.

The story follows Conan the Barbarian, who finds himself in the modern Marvel Universe after leaving the Hyborian Age. When Deathlok begins hunting him, Conan must seek help from an unusual group of allies. The first issue thus kicks off an adventure where fantasy, technology, and the various worlds of Marvel converge. The series offers a different team composition than the usual Avengers stories.

Mico Suayan’s cover is an homage to The Incredible Hulk #340. The close-up of the face, the metal claws, and the reflection within them give the illustration its recognizable composition. This Trade Dress version retains the title and other cover trade dress. That distinction is relevant for collectors who collect different editions of the same illustration side-by-side, including variants where the title treatment has been omitted.

The copy has a CGC rating of 9.6, designated as Near Mint+. The transparent holder allows the front and the grading label to be viewed without removing the comic from the casing. The grade pertains to the comic; the condition of the holder is separate from that. This edition fits well in a collection of Mico Suayan covers, Marvel homages, or Savage Avengers. The combination of a specific cover variant and a certified condition rating is the primary differentiator for this copy.
