This Batman action figure was released in 2018 by DC Collectibles as part of the Batman: Black & White Action Figure series. The figure is based on the classic artwork by Batman creator Bob Kane and harkens back to the Dark Knight's very first appearance in Detective Comics #27 from 1939.
This early version of Batman differs in several ways from the character as we know him today. The costume has a simpler design, the ears are noticeably long, and the cape has the characteristic wing-like shape from Bob Kane's original drawings. It is precisely this early look that makes this version special within a Batman collection.
For the Batman: Black & White series, the historical design was executed entirely in monochrome tones. Black, white, and various shades of gray emphasize the lines of the original artwork and align with the concept of the well-known Batman: Black & White statue series.
The figure is approximately 6.6 to 6.75 inches tall and, unlike the statues from the original Black & White line, features articulation. The sculpt was handled by Jack Mathews and the figure comes with a display base.
This Bob Kane Batman appeared in the first Batman: Black & White action figure wave, along with versions based on the artwork of Jim Lee and Greg Capullo.
