This Batman & Superman 2-Pack was released in 2016 by DC Collectibles to mark the 30th anniversary of Frank Miller's influential comic book The Dark Knight Returns. The set brings together the older Bruce Wayne and Superman as they appear during one of the most famous confrontations in DC Comics history.
In The Dark Knight Returns, Bruce Wayne has left his role as Batman behind for years. When Gotham City sinks further into violence and crime, he decides to don the cape and cowl once more. His return eventually brings him into conflict with Superman, who is now working directly for the U.S. government.
The figures are based on Frank Miller's characteristic designs. Batman has the massive, broad physique with which Miller drew his older version of Bruce Wayne, while Superman also features a more powerful and heavier appearance than many more traditional interpretations of the character.
For this 30th Anniversary release, DC Collectibles used the well-known sculpts from the earlier The Dark Knight Returns action figures as a base, but the figures were given updated deco. Batman and Superman are approximately 17 centimeters tall and are presented together in a special 30th Anniversary window box.
