Character:
This Hasbro Star Wars: The Black Series Jawa #61 is based on the desert dwellers from Star Wars: A New Hope. This edition was released in 2018 in the black window box with red accents, commonly referred to as the Red Line. The figure belongs to the 6-inch scale line and features the smaller body proportions characteristic of a Jawa. Thus, the 6-inch designation refers to the scale series, not the actual height of the character.
Jawas roam the deserts of Tatooine in search of discarded machinery, parts, and droids. Their massive sandcrawlers serve as transport, workshops, and storage space. In A New Hope, they play a crucial role when R2-D2 and C-3PO end up with the Lars family through their trading. The brown robes, dark faces, and yellow eyes make these Tatooine inhabitants instantly recognizable within the original Star Wars film.
Hasbro has equipped the Jawa with a molded plastic robe, a hood, and detailed carrying straps with pouches. Folds and weathering accents give the clothing texture. The weaponry consists of two ion blasters, one of which is connected to the figure's gear. Various joints allow for pose adjustments, although the robe limits the leg mobility. The yellow eyes are a painted detail and do not feature an electronic light function.
For collectors of the original trilogy, this Jawa fits well in a Tatooine display with droids and other characters from A New Hope. Number 61 is also relevant for those collecting the numbered Red Line packaging. The figure design previously appeared in the 40th Anniversary series; this release is primarily distinguished by the regular Black Series window packaging. The item offered comes from a private collection and has a Near Mint box with light scratching on the window.
