This Batman action figure was released by McFarlane Toys as part of the DC Multiverse Gold Label series and is based on Batman as he appears in the classic comic book storyline Batman: Year Two. This special edition combines the 7-inch Batman figure with an impressively stylized cape and an elaborate graveyard display.
Batman: Year Two was originally published in Detective Comics #575-578 and pits Bruce Wayne against The Reaper, a violent vigilante who was active in Gotham City years before Batman. When The Reaper returns, Batman is forced to confront his own methods and principles. The storyline is also closely linked to Todd McFarlane, who provided a significant portion of the artwork.
For this Gold Label release, McFarlane Toys has rendered Batman in his signature grey costume with a blue cape, cowl, gloves, and boots. The figure features Ultra Articulation with up to 22 moving parts, allowing it to be posed in various dynamic positions.
The most striking part of this release is the massive, stylized cape that gives Batman a particularly dramatic, comic-book aesthetic. This cape can be removed and replaced with the included fabric cape. A graveyard display base is also included, allowing for a complete Batman: Year Two presentation to be built.
In addition to the two different cape options, the set includes a Batarang, two interchangeable hands, and a collectible art card. This makes it a significantly more elaborate release than a standard DC Multiverse Batman, and especially interesting as a centerpiece display piece within a Batman collection.
