Medicom Toy - MAFEX - Batman: The Dark Knight Returns - Batman (Black and Grey, 2020) #106 - 6” Action Figure

This Batman action figure was released in 2020 by Medicom Toy as MAFEX No.106 and is based on Bruce Wayne as he appears in Frank Miller's influential comic The Dark Knight Returns. This version depicts the older, more heavily built Batman in his characteristic black and grey costume.

In The Dark Knight Returns, Bruce Wayne has retired as Batman after years of absence. When Gotham City becomes increasingly overrun by violence and crime, Bruce decides to don the cape and cowl once again, despite his age. His return leads to a much grittier version of Batman and ultimately to confrontations with, among others, Two-Face, The Joker, and Superman.

Medicom Toy has translated the distinctive artwork from the comic into an approximately 16-centimeter-tall MAFEX action figure. The broad build, short ears on the cowl, black cape, and the large bat symbol on the grey costume closely follow the recognizable style of Frank Miller's Batman.

The figure features extensive MAFEX articulation and comes with various interchangeable hands and accessories that allow for a wide range of poses from the comic to be recreated. The fabric cape also gives Batman a more natural appearance and offers more freedom when posing compared to a fully plastic cape.

The sculpting was handled by PERFECT-STUDIO. Combined with the classic design, extensive articulation, and strong connection to one of the most famous Batman stories, MAFEX No.106 represents an important release within Medicom's The Dark Knight Returns series.
